Impotence causes

Sexual potency is an ability of a man to carry out sexual intercourse; therefore impotence is inability of a man to carry out sexual intercourse. Impotence can also be defined as inability to become.

A man can be considered impotent or suffering from and Erectile Dysfunction if he:

  • Doesn’t have a sex drive.
  • Cannot achieve erection.
  • Cannot reach the ejaculation (except for cases when man can control his ejaculation).
  • Cannot reach an orgasm.

The term “Impotence” can only be applied to a person’s condition after a long period of complete inability to copulate; all other cases are considered functional disorders.

Before treating impotence it’s better to find out exactly what’s causing it in the first place. It is possible that finding and neutralizing the cause can cure impotence completely. There are two main reasons for impotence:

  • Physical Impotence.
  • Psychological impotence, which is often called an unspecified impotence.

There are four main organic disorders that could lead to physical impotence:

  • Diabetes or its latent form.
  • Blood circulation disorders leading to decrease of arousal: aortic stenosis, hypertension, heart disorders.
  • Nervous system disorders that block arousal signals from brain or spinal nerves. These are Neurological diseases.
  • Low levels of testosterone blocking the sex drive. Hormonal disorders are among the most rare causes for physical impotence.

Psychological impotence connected to stress factors (sometimes subconsciously) disrupting the erection. Psychological impotence is usually caused by fear, pressure, dissatisfaction with life and yourself resulting from stress, troubles at work, difficulties at home.

Some impotent men do have an erection but it’s very short lasting. In this case, the difference may seem not that big, but from a psychological point of view it has principal meaning. A man who considers himself an impotent is under a lot of stress and pressure. If he could view this problem from a different angle and decided that he simply couldn’t maintain an erection for a long time, his psychological balance might return to him.

Also being overwhelmed by solving complicated life problems for long periods of time may be the cause for impotence. In this case cure is in restoring the usual rhythm and way of life so a person does not experience significant stress, or in long-term rest.

The cause for diminished sexual potency is in concentration on the intercourse itself without taking conditions and strong psychological associations into consideration. Even more harm is caused by overly fixating attention on sex organs functioning (for example, worrying about the small size of a sex organ).

Very often sexual potency suffers results of long sex abstinence (men over 40 should avoid long periods without sex). After normal sex life is restored, everything usually gets back on track.

Another cause for impotence could be a disruption of certain sex life stereotype, built over a period of time. There are cases when a man having no problems with his erection while being with his wife, cannot successfully engage in an intercourse with another woman. This is even possible with one’s constant partner if sex is happening in unusual place or situation.

Keeping in mind the element to psychological getting used to it is recommended to change the way, place and other things about your love making.

Smoking is another cause of impotence. According to research, 11% of smoke abusers (smoking 20 cigarettes per day), have sexual dysfunctions. Those who quit smoking however, usually get their sexual potency back. Those who can’t quit smoking should remember that refraining from smoking 3-4 hours before the sex helps achieve a stronger erection. Results of research conducted by British Medical Association show that majority of men do not know about the existence of such connection. At the same time about 120 thousands Britans age 30 to 40 became impotent because of the smoking addiction.

Those who think that alcohol helps sexual potency are deeply mistaken. This can only happen in the beginning phase of alcohol consumption. But, firstly signs of sexual potency increase are short lived, secondly further down the road they change into diminished sex drive, disrupted erection and serious sexual disorders.

Among those men ill with diabetes, impotence is quite a common complication, which can surface in younger age than in a healthy person’s. At the age of 30-40 years, 25% of men with diabetes develop impotence, ages 50-60 that’s happens to 53% and for ages 60-65 - 75%.

One of the most common causes for impotence is obesity. It is a known fact that when a man gets rid of excessive weight, his sexual potency increases.

Sports activities positively influence sexual potency as long as they are not excessive. Regular physical exercise prevents impotence. If, however a physical load is too excessive and your body can’t restore in time, this leads to diminished sexual function. Influence of physical exercise on sexual potency is connected to a better blood circulation of sexual organs. Bicycling however is not a recommended activity; it can increase the risk of impotence.

There are many ways to overcome impotence. We think that it is better to combine several methods. However it is not always possible and in some cases does not suit everyone. That’s why you have to choose, try and look for something that works for you and you will succeed.
